SMG UK interpreting

A valuable help in the UK and abroad

SMG UK’s interpreting services have been chosen by prominent clients including NATO and the French Ministry of Justice: our professional interpreters are not only experts in foreign languages and the art of communication but also have experience in your subject area, thus providing you with valuable support anywhere in the world.

A wide range of available interpreting services

Conference interpreting

Simultaneous interpreting: The interpreter translates simultaneously from a booth, using special headphones and a microphone.
Consecutive interpreting:  The interpreter sits beside the speaker, listens and takes notes and then translates for the audience.
Chuchotage: The interpreter ‘whispers’ the translation simultaneously for an individual foreign listener.

Business interpreting

  • Business negotiation interpreting: the interpreter translates at your business meetings at home and abroad, facilitating communication and establishing intercultural bonds.
  • R. Assistants for trade fairs: public relations assistants, perfectly consistent with your image, who both understand your business products and services and also interpret for you and your visitors, providing you with a valuable service during trade fairs or exhibitions. They help you make new contacts and generate potential new business.

Videoconference & telephone interpreting

The interpreter calls a foreign contact on your behalf and offers support during your videoconference, providing a written report upon request.

Dubbers and speakers

Male and female voice actors for audio/video voice off, voice over and lip sync recordings and event presentations.

Cultural mediators

Cultural mediation is a type of consecutive interpreting service: the mediator translates after the speaker has spoken and supports them by facilitating smooth and thoughtful communication with persons of different cultures.

Cultural mediation is not limited to the translation of the spoken word; the mediator must clearly convey the message to ensure it is understood and accepted by the parties involved.

Cultural mediation is used, for example, to assist foreigners in communication with social services.

Where requested and agreed with the client, cultural mediation can also be performed remotely by means of consecutive interpreting.

Tour guides

Leading groups of foreign tourists or guests and offering information and explanations in foreign language(s).

ISL – International Sign Language

This simultaneous conference interpreting service is used when real-time translation is required for people who are deaf or hard of hearing (e.g. live TV broadcasts). The interpreter translates the speech simultaneously, without interruption and with a maximum delay of a few seconds.

ISL interpreters can work for up to 90 minutes at a time, and must work in rotation for longer jobs.

This service does not require any technical equipment but the interpreter must be able to hear the speaker clearly and be clearly visible to the audience.

General interpreting management procedure

Below are the main phases of our interpreting management procedure:

Submission of order/request

The client submits an order or requests a quote via e-mail or using our SMGDesk platform. One of our Project Managers (PM) is assigned to the client to respond to all communications from here on.

Order/request processing

The PM processes the order/request as follows:

  • analyses the language specifications and logistics of the service required;
  • organises the work process by assigning suitable interpreters and appropriate language resources and helps with any travel arrangements and work shifts;
  • contacts the client for any queries or clarifications.

Quote

The quote includes the rates and times agreed with the client.

Execution

The PM coordinates the provision of the service and continues to provide support to the client and the interpreters where requested.

Quality satisfaction

The PM asks the client for feedback on the service received.
